My artistic practice is driven by a conceptual approach, in which the initial idea is followed by
extensive research into its realization across diverse techniques and materials. I focused on transforming personal history and industrial labor into refined artistic
statements. This approach stems from my early experiences in my family’s craft, particularly working
in my father’s workshop, where he specializes in constructing gas ovens for the traditional Balkan
pastry, burek.
Last year, this apprenticeship culminated in a pivotal collaborative project. Together with my father,
we created an oven that functioned both as a utilitarian object and a finished artwork. This piece
articulated the transfer of knowledge across generations, highlighting the deep emotional and cultural
connections embedded in our family tradition and the broader Balkan culinary heritage.
In parallel, I continue to collect the incandescent metal filings created during grinding. These fiery
remnants are carefully transformed into small, accidental sculptures, tiny archives of intense labor and
energy.
Conceptual Themes and Methodological Range
My practice revolves around artistic documentation, encompassing both material and immaterial
histories. Key themes include ritual, tradition, the unconventional use of artifacts (such as exhibiting
functional objects), and the exploration of archives. I work across a wide range of media, including
sculpture, painting, printmaking, and contemporary video, always choosing the form that best serves
the concept.
